About the Division of Water
The Division of Water was created in 1949 by the Ohio General Assembly to collect and analyze Ohio's water resource data.
The Division conducts ground water mapping and research; develops water supply studies; insures the safety of existing dams; regulates construction of new dams and levees; governs the sale or lease of state owned waters; maintains the canal systems; administers the state floodplain management program; and supports education through outreach programs such as Project WET.
Technical assistance is also provided on ground water quantity management, water well construction, water-related engineering, and flooding and floodplain management. The pages linked to below under "More About the Division of Water", briefly describe the services and data provided by the Division of Water.
The Division of Water, along with numerous state and local agencies, has a vital role in managing Ohio's water resources.
